Walt Tyler Wildcats

Walt Tyler Elementary was a cherished part of the Pioneer Union School District, serving the small community of Grizzly Flats. It provided a unique, close-knit, and personalized learning environment for students from TK through 4th grade, with only two classrooms.

Tragically, Walt Tyler Elementary was destroyed in the Caldor Fire in August 2021, which devastated most of the Grizzly Flats community. The loss of the school has deeply affected the students and families who once attended it. Walt Tyler was more than just an educational institution; it was an extension of our families. Many mornings and afternoons, parents could be found gathered, chatting with coffee cups in hand, while little ones too young for school weaved in and out of their legs. Walt Tyler offered an unforgettable learning experience for all those fortunate enough to attend the little mountain top school.
